| HOME >> INTRODUCTION |
Founded in 1996, Chang Qing Studio of Tongji University derived from an experimental system of Dept. of Architecture as both a ‘professor studio’ and a teaching-research group. Now Chang Qing Studio serves as a significant and unique academic role after the structural reform of the college, department and research teams.
At the turn of the century, Chinese architecture has undergone profound changes in the wake of globalization. Given the circumstances, the Studio focuses on the evolution of Chinese architecture along with its influence upon the current theory and practice. Moreover, besides the research and education in the field of protection and restoration of Chinese vernacular architecture, it also carries on studies on the evolution of urban and rural architecture with cultural anthropological methods as well as special design experiment as the core of its work.
Until now, altogether 10 doctors and 24 masters have already obtained their degrees here in the Studio, many of whose dissertations have been nominated or honored as
'Excellent Dissertation' of Tongji University and Shanghai.
In the recent 10 years, the researches and designs by Chang Qing Studio have been acclaimed by the public and exerted certain influence home and abroad, among which there are more than 10 national and local key tasks such as ‘Conservation
& Regeneration design of No.9 on the Bund’, ‘Historic Research and Conceptual Design of the Former British Consulate Area on the Bund’, ‘The Regeneration design on Fangbang Road in Yu Garden Area’, ‘Conservation & Regeneration Design of Old Towns Along Qiantang River in Hangzhou’, ‘Conservation & Regeneration Design of the Former Residence of Chen Fang in Zhuhai’.
